* Date of Birth Note: You will automatically be disqualified if you:
  • Are under 20 years of age on Sep 15, 2025
  • Turn 42 years old before Sep 15, 2025, unless you have active military service to qualify for a maximum age extension.
* Citizenship Indicate if you will be a citizen of the United States on Sep 15, 2025

Note: A "no" is an automatic disqualification.
* Criminal Record Indicate whether you have been convicted of a felony.

  • * Military Branch
    Using the drop-down menu, select the branch in which you served.

    U.S. Armed Forces includes: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and the Reserves/National Guard of each branch.

    Reserves/National Guard qualify only when in the service of the United States under USC Title 10, pursuant to call as provided by law on a full-time active duty basis, other than active duty for training purposes.

  • *Date Entered
    Click on the calendar icon, then select the date that you entered military service - or type in the date in mm/dd/yyyy format.

  • * Date Discharged
    Click on the calendar icon, then select date the that you were or anticipate being discharged from military service - or type in the date in mm/dd/yyyy format.

  • * Type of Discharge
    Select the type of discharge you received or expect to receive from the drop-down menu.

  • Select the Add button to complete the entry for this time of service.

Note: You can enter multiple dates of service by clicking on the add another branch link and repeating the process above
Veteran's Preference Credits

  Type of Service Indicate if you are currently serving in the Armed Forces on full-time active duty OR if you served in one of the hostilities listed by checking the appropriate box.
  Disabled Indicate, by clicking on either the yes or no button, whether you do or do not qualify as a disabled veteran who is currently receiving payments from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for a service-connected disability rated at 10% or more.
Note: A War-Time or Disabled Veteran may be eligible to have extra credits added to his/her passing score on the Entrance Examination for NYS Trooper. To have these extra credits added to your exam score, you must complete this section. These credits can be used only once for any permanent government employment in New York State.

If you do claim the extra credits at this time, you will still have the option of waiving them later. If you score well enough on the examination to be reached for further processing without the use of the extra credits you may waive the credits at that time and reserve them for other New York State government employment or for a New York State Police promotional examination.
